Gutierrez was introduced to
the carriage world as a youth at a week-long Standardbred driving camp
in upstate New York. While she continued to be a horse lover and avid
rider into adulthood, she never had the opportunity to drive again and
fondly recalled the joy of driving that retired racehorse.
in 1998, she acquired her first miniature horse and began her journey
in the driving world. She enjoyed the miniature horse breed shows, but a
new world opened up when she volunteered at a Combined Driving Event in
2003. She was in awe of the reinsmanship and skill required to compete
in three challenging events and liked that equines of all shapes and
sizes could excel in the sport.
The very next year, Rebecca
entered her mini in their first CDE in Colorado. She learned a lot that
weekend, but most importantly, she discovered that the carriage driving
community has the most warm and welcoming people in the horse world.
Rebecca has trained with some of the top
drivers in the industry and has competed singles in the VSE, pony and
horse divisions at Preliminary level. She has one CDE under her belt in
the pair horse division and hopes to add to that experience.
has a degree in Journalism from Colorado State University and spent her
professional life as a Realtor, marketer and public relations
professional. She has written articles about carriage driving and
provided photography for horse publications. She lives in Windsor,
South Carolina (just outside of the horse mecca of Aiken) with her
daughter and a small herd of driving ponies and horses.
